Villa Baixa

Villa Baixa

In a privileged setting, between a hill by São Jorge’s castle walls on the right, the splendid Santa Justa lift on the left and the nearby deep blue river Tagus, one comes across the Villa Baixa aparthotel. Discreet, with slightly austere yet elegant lines, like many buildings in the “Baixa Pombalina” (the downtown area that was re-built by the Marquis of Pombal, the kingdom’s Prime Minister, after the 1755 earthquake), Villa Baixa is engaging both for its historical surroundings and especially for its interiors which combine one of Portugal’s most beautiful traditions – tile work – with a contemporaneity displayed in sleek atmospheres, little details and a remarkable comfort to which the 21st century visitor is particularly sensitive.

Sleep Well

Unaffected, elegant and traditional would probably be the best words to describe this building of 14 apartments with 35-60 m2. Unaffected in the spatial layout, elegant in the harmony of colours – white, blue, light grey and pine – and in the essential details to create attractive and comfortable environments. Tradition is evident everywhere, from the building’s entrance to the 5th floor, and is reflected in a design favouring details such as traditional Portuguese tiles produced in the famous Viúva Lamego factory (some influenced by Arab design, with little reliefs, and  faithful copies of originals from bygone  eras).
